the way he looks

I watched this brazilian movie not too long ago, which is unusal for me since I easily get annoyed when it's not in english (because a foreign language + english subtitles + swedish translation in my head = a lot of brain work). But the trailer made me give it a try.

It starts of like any teenage movie, with this boy Leonardo as the main character. Every day (well, almost) he goes to school and hangs out with his best friend, Giovanna. She is the only one in the classroom who is not annoyed by the never ending tapping from Leo's special typewriter, because even though he seems to live his life like any other of his classmates, he has one big difference: his blindness.

Although many people in school behaves like shit towards him, Giovanna sticks with him. Every day after school she walks him over to his house and say goodbye with a kiss on the cheek. They also like to hang out by the pool together.

But so one day, a new member of their class walks in: Gabriel. Giovanna is soon crushing over him.

And Gabriel joins their friendship, showing Leonardo new music and they ride down empty streets on his bicycle...

But then some things happen...

And just like many other friendships with three best friends, they start falling a part instead out of jealousy.

And in the midst of all the relationship dilemmas, Leonardo is struggling with over-protective parents as they refuse to let him live a normal life.

I almost get the Perks of a being Wallflower feelings from this movie at first glance, although I can admit that I'm not a big fa of comparing people's works of art. The only thing is that the way he looks is so much better: with a soundtrack completely made out of belle & sebastian songs, genuine actors and a more original and moving plot. And in the end, I have to say that the portuguese didn't become too annoying, it rather made it more refreshing.

Conclusion?
Watch it!
